Common Questions

  • Where am I staying on this trip?

You'll be staying at various local three to five start hotels or lodges along your route, some of which are very iconic properties with great locations, views and history. All our accommodations are carefully selected by our Canadian Insiders. We'll make sure that wherever you stay, you get the best value and comfort based on the seasonal availability.

  • What is included in the price?

Typically we include and pre-book all your main trip components so you don't have to worry about your connections, places to stay, or activities on your trip. You'll receive a complete travel package with detailed documentation and our Canadian Insiders remain at your disposal before and during your trip to answer your questions.

  • Can I customize this trip?

Your trip can be as rich as you'd like, and completely arranged around your interests and needs. The greatest benefit of working with us is our local knowledge. You can request your free trip plan to decide what you'd like to see and do.

If your trip is a special occasion, we'll make sure it is unforgettable. Or if you're traveling with a group, we'll take care of the logistics so you can share time together stress-free.

  • What are the best ways to travel around Canada?

Canada has a network of spectacular roadways, train routes, ferry crossings, and float planes. We can arrange for you to travel by car or to sit back and relax.

  • What is the train experience like?

Because most Canadians typically do not use the train for commuting (as in the US or Europe), the two main rail providers here are driven by tourism. You'll experience the romance of true trans-continental rail travel, with a wide selection of services, accommodation types, and great food.

    Featured train experiences:

    • Rocky Mountaineer operates daylight touring trains, which travel along three of the most spectacular routes in Western Canada. You'll enjoy onboard commentary, award winning service, and incredible food.
  • When is the best time to see wildlife?

That depends on the destination and type. As a rule, the main feeding and migration seasons are best for wildlife experiences. Tell us which animals interest you and we'll make your trip coincide with the best viewing season.

  • Is this an escorted tour?

With the exception of our guided wildlife trips, our vacations are not typically 'escorted.' We combine the best of both worlds – the reassurance of seamless connections, customer service support, and scheduled activities, plus the freedom of 'independent' travel. You are not tied into a specific group, or a rigid daily itinerary. This allows us to personalize your trip to suit your occasion, interests, and timeframe.

  • Will it be cold when I visit Canada in summer?

The temperature varies from mild to hot, depending on location. Northern Canada will range between 50°F to 64°F (10°C – 18°C) in summer. The interior of BC, prairies, Ontario and Quebec can reach temperatures around 95°F (35°C). Canada's west coast, mountain regions, and Maritimes enjoy milder summer temperatures. They range on average from 59°F to 77°F (15°C – 25°C).

  • How much does my trip cost?

All our trips can be customized to fit your schedule and budget. The price depends on travel season, train service, hotel level, and the sightseeing tours you choose. Request your free trip plan which will provide you with a detailed cost estimate.

The trip was absolutely amazing! I did not know that Western Canada was so beautiful and so friendly. We saw so many nice places that we will keep in memories and in pictures. The Rockies, the mountains, the weather, our stay at the hotels, the people, the scenery of the lakes, the boat cruise which was a surprise for us, the excursions, the food and shops everything was absolutely magnificent and perfect. I would recommend this trip to anyone that we know. Everything was well organized and well planned. The ride on the VIA train was great. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and the view in the dome was amazing. Now all of this is my dreams come true since I was a little girl I dreamed to go on a trip on the VIA. Now, if my health and wealth permitted my plan is to do East Canada. You can be sure that when I am ready for it that I will be contacting you to make this happen. Your choices for everything on this trip were excellent and with no problems. Thank you again for your help and for your expertise in planning our trip. You have made this trip special and very easy for us and we really appreciate it. Again, thank you very much for everything and be sure that we will be in touch again for another adventure in the near future.

What a great trip we had, loved the train ride, wonderful accommodations and meals, especially enjoyed the hotel in Lake Louise, could have stayed there the entire trip. Other accommodations were good, close in to city center so we could walk to sites and events. Had a wonderful night in Kamloops going to their concert in Friendship Park. Banff is beautiful and the glacier lakes of Canada are indescribable. Never realized the impact of the mountains, forests, glaciers, national parks and railways have on the economy of Canada. All in all, a wonderful trip. Thank you for your thorough itinerary that made our visit to Canada a wonderful experience.

We have had a most memorable celebration of our 60th anniversary, and certainly much of the credit goes to you. Janet was unaware of my plans after we left Spokane. The staff at the hotel was well aware of the significance of our stay, an indication of your thoughtfulness. The concierge made arrangements for us to be picked up early in the morning of June 26th so I did not have to tell the driver where to take us. Janet was thrilled when she saw the bright orange brick Rocky Mountaineer building. As we entered the building, and heard the pianist playing on the grand piano, with the sound reverberating throughout, and experienced the warm greeting of those meeting us. I knew we were in for something very special. When we gave our names to the person registering us, she greeted us with "Happy Anniversary!" During registration, a senior member of staff came to greet us, and asked us if we would like to blow the horn before departure. We were then escorted outside the building where we jointly practiced the foot pedal procedure on how to blow the portable horn. At exactly 7:20, the senior member in charge of registration and boarding asked all 600+ guests to come forward and with microphone in hand announced that it was our 60th anniversary and that we would blow the horn to signify that it was time to board the train….quite an honor. The entire trip on the train was glorious! The scenery was spectacular, the food excellent, and the staff well trained and friendly. You can be assured that we will recommend Fresh Tracks to any and all that wish to enjoy some of the world's most magnificent scenery. The lodges were very nice. I am wondering if you pulled some strings with the hotel in Banff, even though I made those reservations on my own, it surprised me we received such exceptional treatment.  Our room on the Gold Level 5th floor, had the best view of the Bow river, the falls and valley of any room on that floor.  And the bottle of champagne and chocolate strawberries were in our room on arrival.  Several special desserts were prepared in our honor during our 4 day stay. You have provided us with memories that will last our lifetime. I am a big fan of Fresh Tracks and we will likely be in touch with you for a Trans Canadian trip someday. Thank you for your special interest and exceptional service.

Thank you for organizing our perfect holiday

We are, somewhat sadly, home again but with an extensive library of very fond memories of an absolutely fantastic holiday. The scenery in Canada was, without exception, stunning in very place that we visited. Whistler and Anchorage and the cruise back to Vancouver were just awesome. Lake Louise was still frozen and presented us with a spectacle that we had never seen or ever thought we would see. Scenery aside, the arrangements that you put in place for us worked perfectly and to the minute. This added a degree of polish and comfort to our itinerary that enabled us to completely relax with confidence that our transport, transfers and accommodation were all in place. We are very deeply indebted to you for the work that you put in and for your contribution to making the experience our holiday of a lifetime. The hotels also provided first class service and facilities. We have been thinking ahead and we are very keen to return to Canada, but this time to the eastern seaboard. If we do decide on a holiday, we would without hesitation contact Fresh Tracks to do all our bookings. The service that you offered was faultless and we have strongly commended Fresh Tracks to all the people we have met in all our recent travels.

The trip was fantastic. I was so impressed with how organized everything was and how smoothly it ran. The guides were so knowledgable and helpful. The hotels were first rate and the staff was very  pleasant. We had one issue at Hotel Lake Louise.  They put my sister-in-law and I in a room with one bed rather than two beds. A hotel staff tried very hard to find us a room with 2 beds but none were available. They sent a bottle of wine to our room and paid for breakfast the next day. Their efforts were appreciated. All in all the trip was above our expectations.  I will definitely recommend Fresh Tracks to anyone wanting to take a trip to Canada. I hope to return to Canada in the near future to see more of this beautiful country. Thank you so much for making this trip one I'll remember for the rest of my life.

Our vacation was absolutely amazing and seamless as you had told me it would be. Every connection was done exceptionally well. It relieved any potential stress. Your company seems well respected as our vouchers or confirmations were never questioned. We especially appreciated our Banff tour guides, but all were great. I want to come back soon. I hope we can. It was like two different vacations with the coastal places and then the mountainous ones. I am so grateful we added extra days. Each place seemed like a wondrous event in itself, but then we were at another that was even better it seemed, time after time. I'm glad you mentioned Victoria. It was one of my favorite places. It's difficult to pick another favorite place. Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff are all so amazingly beautiful but yet so unique in their own character. We wished we had more time in Vancouver. The food was amazing everywhere! We even found a farm to table gourmet restaurant in Kamloops. The people were fantastic! Everyone was calm yet exceptionally attentive and we never heard a tense interaction on the trip. I was already planning our next trip in my mind before we left Banff. Thank you for all your planning for a dream trip!

My clients are not very computer savvy so I am sending the comments about their rail travel with Fresh Tracks Canada for them. They cannot say enough wonderful things about the train, service, activities and promptness of all activities and personnel that were taking care of them. From what they told me, it could not have been more perfect or beautiful. They very highly recommend Fresh Tracks Canada and all that is offered.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give our trip a 12 plus! It's an experience not to be missed. We didn't have one 'glitch', service was more then what we could have asked for and accommodations were perfect. You did a fantastic job and should be commended.

All in all, a very pleasant experience

We really enjoyed our trip that you coordinated. All went very smoothly; no hitches; no missed connections, nice tours, nice hotels. I would even like to give you credit for the unusually warm weather, but that may be going a bit far. I particularly appreciate your patience on the phone with my numerous questions and your putting up with my yankee sense of humor. All in all, a very pleasant experience. Thank you.

We had a GREAT trip. I really could not pick which area I liked the best - they were all so different, yet equally beautiful in their own ways. Vancouver had so many things to do and see, the Hop-on Hop- off Trolley worked great. Enjoyed Stanley Park, Chinatown, Gastown and the Bay cruise was beautiful (food was excellent). The Sutton Place - WOW - what's not to like. The Rocky Mountaineer was exceptional: Silverleaf service worked great for us as we liked the flexibility to get up and down when we wanted; service was excellent (Blaine and Bernardo were a hoot!); could not ask for better food. Jasper was fun and we liked that our hotel (the Sawridge) was close enough to walk to town. Lake Louise had absolutely breathtaking views. The Fairmont was very classic and beautiful - although a little to stiff for my taste, it was VERY nice. Banff was better as we liked the Rimrock very much (rooms were larger, less formal). Loved the tours - so glad we were on the smaller vehicles and groups, it allowed us to spend more time at stops, had a picnic by the river and enjoy our drivers more. The only driver that was a little disappointing was a man in Jasper - he was from France and the sound system was bad so was very hard to understand at times. All the pick-ups were good and mostly on time (except for Jasper which was 30 min late). The boat ride to Maligne Lake, the all-terrain vehicle to the glacier and the gondola in Banff were all added highlights to an already beautiful experience. I have already recommended Fresh Tracks and this trip to several people and would not hesitate to use your expertise or company again. THANK YOU for all your help and making our vacation one I will always remember.

There's not a single hitch in anything... everything is perfect and we are enjoying every minute of it. A very memorable honeymoon vacation. Thank God we found Fresh Tracks.

We had a wonderful time. Everything went exactly as planned and the weather was terrific. The thing that we were most impressed with was the people of Canada. Everyone welcomed us with open arms and made us feel right at home. We were very impressed with the crew on the train, who couldn't have been more accommodating and courteous. All of the Sundog drivers knew their stuff and gave us great information along the way. To end things up, the show after the chuck wagon races in Calgary was absolutely spectacular and was a great way to end our trip. We will definitely recommend Fresh Tracks Canada to anyone who wants to visit your wonderful country.

We had a fantastic bucket list trip! Everything worked out well – the accommodations were perfect, people were lovely, food was delicious, guides were all very knowledgeable, and even though we didn't see a bear, we had a great time. Thanks for all your help. I will recommend Fresh Tracks Canada to all my friends.

Trip was super, although the weather could have been a little better. We were prepared with rain gear, so still went on walks in light rain (Lake Louise and Stanley Park). All services were very good and very punctual. Appreciate your services.

We just got back from our trip – it was beyond spectacular. What scenery! And everything worked out well. The hotel in Calgary was a disappointment. The location was perfect, but the bathroom was miniscule, the windows looked like they had not been cleaned in years. It was a 2 star only. I would say the hotel in Banff was adequate however it was 1 mile walk to downtown which was ok but it would have been nice to be a little closer. Other than that, the train was wonderful, the Stampede great and we had a terrific time.

Our trip was wonderful! We were so pleased and surprised that LaVern (and the rest of us) had special transportation help. She only had to get up the stairs on the large buses a few times. We both got upgraded at Lake Louise. Roger and I were in a Jr. suite that faced the mountains! It was huge and had a livingroom with a dining corner. Oh, to be rich enough to always live like that! The lakes were absolutely beautiful and the weather was perfect on the trip. The few showers were while we were on the bus. Banff had 6 inches of snow the week before we were there, but it was high 70's for us. Thank you so much for making the trip so very special for us.

WOW, was the common word my wife and I kept saying – we had a wonderful trip. Thank you for all your help, the hotels where fantastic except for Kamloops which now we see this was just a destination point. Overall, we had a great time knowing what I know now I would have maybe skipped Vancouver and spent more time in Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff. The last three stopping points where the most beautiful sceneries we have ever seen. Thanks again for all your help and I will highly recommend you and your company in the future.

Our well-planned itinerary meant that no time was wasted

We had an absolutely marvelous time – and thank you very much for your large part in this. Every day was packed with the most beautiful scenery we could wish for and our well-planned itinerary meant that no time was wasted – though we didn't feel rushed. In fact, while seeing and doing so much we also felt completely relaxed and quite blessed to be there in such glorious settings. The weather was great and we had the good luck to see quite a lot of wild life – 3 bears at different times, coyotes, mountain sheep, deer and hoary marmots. We love Canada! We had to wait several hours to check in at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver and as we were really tired, my husband especially, this was disheartening. We had actually paid for the previous night (and then canceled), so, considering that our flight arrival time was known to you, it would have been good if the room could have been held for us for immediate check-in. Also, the hotel said they only had us booked in for one night. They sorted it out and we were okay, but it caused a bit of stress. I've had much experience with sloppy hotel bookings so I suspect that this fault is theirs and not yours. After that though, everything went very smoothly and I must say I am so impressed with the way you organized it all. Thank you very much. We will be in touch again I'm sure, to see more of Canada, and Alaska too.
