    Sample Itinerary

Think of this itinerary as just a starting point. Our experienced Canadian Insiders will create a personalized experience for you that matches your schedule, travel style and budget.

Day 1 – Begin your Canadian Rockies Train Vacation – Arrival in Vancouver
One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vancouver is surrounded by towering mountains and sparkling ocean. From the very beginning, we ensure your vacation is off to the best start! Walk out of the airport and right into a private vehicle. Your driver will help orient you to our hometown, Vancouver!

    Feature Dinner in Vancouver
We've booked dinner tonight, so you’ll be sure to enjoy some of the best food Vancouver has to offer at one of our favourite restaurants.

    Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 2 – Rocky Mountaineer Train – Vancouver to Whistler
Step aboard the Rocky Mountaineer train for the start of a three-day train journey to the Canadian Rockies. Today you’ll travel from ‘sea to sky’ on a half-day train journey from Vancouver to the Olympic village of Whistler. Along the way, the train winds along the shores of Howe Sound, a deep fjord surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Then slowly it glides into the mountains, besides the rushing waters of the Cheakamus River, with waterfalls cascading down from the glaciers above. Upon arrival in Whistler, enjoy a relaxing afternoon and overnight stay amid the beauty of BC’s Coastal Mountains.

    • Included: Whistler Peak to Peak Gondola Day Pass
Included in your stay is a Peak to Peak Gondola pass, to whisk you up to the alpine. Stroll meadows full of wildflowers and admire vast mountain valleys as far as the eye can see.
    Activity rating: Easy

    • Suggested Add-On: Whistler Tasting Tour (additional cost)
In the charming mountain village of Whistler lie culinary delights waiting to be discovered. Take a walking tour, with a group and guide, of some of Whistler’s best fine dining establishments.
    Activity rating: Easy

    Overnight in Whistler.

Day 3 – Rocky Mountaineer Train – Whistler to Quesnel
The Rocky Mountaineer’s whistle sounds and the smell of a delicious breakfast wafts from the galley as you pull out of Whistler heading north. Over coffee you may chat with your fellow passengers or simply gaze out of the window at some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. Your train vacation is just beginning, so relax and take it in.

In a single day, you will travel through the majestic Fraser Canyon, by the winding shores of Anderson and Seton Lakes, and into the ‘cowboy country’ of the high-desert Cariboo Plateau. In the canyon, you may wonder – not for the last time – at the feat of engineering this railroad represents. As you gaze down from your window, thousands of feet to the rushing waters of the Fraser River below, spare a thought for the chutzpah of the 19th century railroad barons who conceived the project – and the skill and hard work of the engineers, surveyors and migrant workers who built it.

This evening, your train arrives in the small town of Quesnel where you are free to enjoy a dinner on your own and a night in a standard hotel.

    Overnight in Quesnel.

Day 4 – Rocky Mountaineer Train – Quesnel to Jasper
This morning return to your home on the rails – the Rocky Mountaineer Train. This is the day you’ve been waiting for – the day you travel through the breathtaking beauty of the Canadian Rockies. Moose, bald eagle & bear are plentiful up here, so keep your eyes peeled! Seeing the high peaks of the Canadian Rockies for the first time is a thrilling moment and as you step off the train in the quaint mountain town of Jasper the smell of pristine mountain air fills your lungs. Everyday cares are far behind as you look forward to more days exploring the wonderful Canadian Rockies.

Common Questions

  • Where am I staying on this trip?

You'll be staying at various local three to five star hotels or lodges along your route, some of which are very iconic properties with great locations, views and history. All our accommodations are carefully selected by our Canadian Insiders. We'll make sure that wherever you stay, you get the best value and comfort based on the seasonal availability.

  • What is included in the price?

Typically we include and pre-book all your main trip components so you don't have to worry about your connections, places to stay, or activities on your trip. You'll receive your detailed digital travel documents, and our Canadian Insiders remain at your disposal throughout your trip to answer any questions.

  • Can I customize this trip?

Your trip can be as rich as you'd like, and completely arranged around your interests and needs. The greatest benefit of working with us is our local knowledge. You can request your personalized trip plan to decide what you'd like to see and do.

If your trip is a special occasion, we'll make sure it is unforgettable. Or if you're traveling with a group, we'll take care of the logistics so you can share time together stress-free.

  • What are the best ways to travel around Canada?

Canada has a network of spectacular roadways, train routes, ferry crossings, and float planes. We can arrange for you to travel by car or to sit back and relax.

  • What is the train experience like?

Because most Canadians typically do not use the train for commuting (as in the US or Europe), the two main rail providers here are driven by tourism. You'll experience the romance of true trans-continental rail travel, with a wide selection of services, accommodation types, and great food.

    Featured train experiences:

    • Rocky Mountaineer operates daylight touring trains, which travel along three of the most spectacular routes in Western Canada. You'll enjoy onboard commentary, award winning service, and incredible food.
  • When is the best time to see wildlife?

That depends on the destination and type. As a rule, the main feeding and migration seasons are best for wildlife experiences. Tell us which animals interest you and we'll make your trip coincide with the best viewing season.

  • Is this an escorted tour?

With the exception of our guided wildlife trips, our vacations are not typically 'escorted.' We combine the best of both worlds – the reassurance of seamless connections, customer service support, and scheduled activities, plus the freedom of 'independent' travel. You are not tied into a specific group, or a rigid daily itinerary. This allows us to personalize your trip to suit your occasion, interests, and timeframe.

  • Will it be cold when I visit Canada in summer?

The temperature varies from mild to hot, depending on location. Northern Canada will range between 50°F to 64°F (10°C – 18°C) in summer. The interior of BC, prairies, Ontario and Quebec can reach temperatures around 95°F (35°C). Canada's west coast, mountain regions, and Maritimes enjoy milder summer temperatures. They range on average from 59°F to 77°F (15°C – 25°C).

  • How much does my trip cost?

All our trips can be customized to fit your schedule and budget. The price depends on travel season, train service, hotel level, and the sightseeing tours you choose. Request your personalized trip plan and quote which will provide you with a detailed cost estimate.

The arrangement were flawless on your part

The trip was great, the arrangement were flawless on your part. The only negative things were that the Rocky Mountaineer misplaced one of our suitcases when we arrived in Whistler and United Airlines caused a major problem on our return flight. The Mountaineer folk found the missing luggage in a few hours and returned it. The United matter is under "discussion", but had nothing to do with the service you provided.   We will continue to recommend your firm to our friends. Your service is excellent.

Thank you, thank you - what a vacation! Canada is as dramatically beautiful as we had hoped but all the local detail work you put in really made it extra special. Living in the UK, we could never in a million years have sorted out the quality of hotels you put together let alone getting the rooms with the best views, great personal guides, the kayaks and our favourite the tickets for travelling by float plane. You must recommend the heli-hiking - the guide and the company you put us with made it a very special day. In the three weeks we were there, no other travellers we met had such a rich and thoughtful itinerary – they were all as impressed as we were with what you, as local travel specialists, had put together for us. Like it said on your website – every detail, every amazing day! So many, many thanks to you all especially Eva, Katherine and Louise for putting together such a perfect Canada experience.

It was a truly amazing trip. The Canadian Rockies are certainly a 'must see' for everyone but working through your organization made the experience even better. The package with schedule and vouchers you put together for us was so thorough and everything followed through in the same way. Absolutely no hitches! We have recommended your organization to friends who are contemplating the trip and assured them that working with your organization is the way to go. We emailed Eva when we returned to thank her for organizing the trip for us originally. She truly did an amazing job taking care of us. As each event occurred, Neil and I enthusiastically commented on how well she took care of us. Thank you and your entire organization very much for everything.

THANK YOU! With your help we had an absolutely amazing honeymoon! Everything worked out perfectly and was as we expected it would be. BC is a beautiful place and we can't wait to get back up there to do some skiing sometime. The only part of the itinerary where there was a bit of confusion was after the sea plane ride from Victoria to Whistler we didn't know if there would be a car or if we should just grab a taxi, but we got a taxi and everything worked out fine. The room in Victoria was a highlight in terms of the hotels, we had a room on the top floor which was great. All the excursions were great as well except no whales on the whale watching tour… it was beautiful anyways. Having never had a vacation planned/booked for me in the past, working with you and Fresh Tracks was a fantastic experience. Knowing that everything was well planned and well taken care of made it very easy for me to enjoy every minute of the trip.
